He Doesn't Want YOU, So WHY Do You Care!?!? - Why smart women need to stop listening to dumb men!

Why everytime a Black male celeb says something about he prefers non-black women, Black women act like that negro is our spokesperson? Black men still love Black women, ladies, stop using celebs as your "life" examples.

So I was "posted up" on Facebook yesterday and saw the above status update! OMG! It was one of the best statements I had read in weeks! PLUS it came from a VERY successful BLACK MAN in the movie & music industry! So I was DOUBLE impressed by the statement!

I TOTALLY agree with the point being made here. I can understand the disgust that black women may feel when they hear their favorite artist, actor or whatever, spout off about not wanting to be in a relationship with a woman of his same race. But what I don't understand is why does the feeling carry over to anger, hatred and jealousy of other women! Or why does it turn into a generalized feeling toward other men who may not feel the same way!?!?

As a member of "post-racial" America (*sarcasm*) I feel that we all need to start over looking skin-tone requirements; start getting away from racial, financial, cultural and religious discrimination; and really start loving people for who they are inside! However, not everyone feels like me (hence the sarcasm, and thought that even with a Black president, America is probably even more racially unjust than 20 years ago!)! So, realistically, all I can ask is:
- if you are not a celeb & you are from the hood, why do you care who these rich men want to date? If they DID date black women, how does that change life FOR YOU?
- why do you listen to ignorant men from radio & TV, then proceed to pass judgement on ever Tom, Dick & Leroy that you see on the street based on that?
- (this one's for the guys) Just because you see these athletes, musicians & actors talking crazy about why they aren't dating black women, DOES NOT mean you need to REPEAT these lame excuses like a damn fool!

So people, please, wake up, get a life of your own instead of living vicariously through these celebs! Believe me, they DON'T care about you or your life! And they can care less if you screw it up!

Ignorance, Crime, Teen Pregnancy & Materialism in the Black Community - Is Hip-Hop To Blame!?!?

OK, you know by now, how it goes! I was flipping through some FB posts on my Google Android powered Motorola Droid, using Twicca, while drinking a Monter Low Carb, and sitting on my Lay-Z-Boy, I decided to pickup my Dell netbook (OK, enough with the shameless plugs, in hopes of getting free merchandise, LOL!).

Anyway, I came across a post from a very good friend of mine; he is also a Detroiter, an educator and an aspiring author. So he has SEEN a lot about life from a lot of different eyes. Well, he posted that he essentially blamed the musical genre of Hip-Hop for all the the problems that black people have. Here are some of his finer points (the list here evolved over a 12 hour period of him & I having our rebuttals):

our ancestors FOUGHT & DIED to show the world we were not "NIGGERS"! To show that we were NOT sex crazed, violent, ignorant beings. But then along came hip hop (our voice) ironic that EVERYTHING hip hop glorifies says YES, IN FACT WE ARE NIGGAS! [Hip-Hop is the problem] WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE!

If white people made hip hop we'd be outraged and it wouldn't even be a discussion. I'm not sayin its the only problem, but from an educators point of view its the main problem in the black community.

POOR PARENTING AND NO HIP HOP OUR KID HAS A CHANCE. POOR PARENTING MIXED WITH HIP-HOP THEN ITS OVER.

UNTIL WE STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR HIP-HOP THIS ISH WILL CONTINUE TO POLLUTE

I see it for what it (hip-hop) is. Many debate about what [Hip-Hop] should be. The reality is that the whole world is in trouble!

Its TIME for us as THE BODY to unite and speak up. Evil is successful because GOD's people DO NOTHING.

All I'm saying is be real: take out hip-hop from the black equation and change is destined

To [the younger generation] [Hip-Hop] ...teaches them how to roll blunts, disrespect a woman and despise their education

HOLD IT ACCOUNTABLE. Lobby artists like we lobby corporations to influence things. Someone needs to tell them that they COULD be the most powerful people on the planet (positively) if they changed what they glorify

Well, being a lover of music (especially Hip-Hop), but also being a parent of six kids, I AGREED, but of course did not FULLY, 100% agree. So this is what Stylez had to say:

Actually, its not hip-hop, its the mindless drones who have degraded the art form. Hip-Hop has been tainted and twisted and manipulated into what you see today! But only from one aspect. There are still hip-hop artists out here (not really mainstream) that have continued to use it as a voice of a people instead of as a voice for advertisers, gangs and ignorance! Like you said, we as a people (actually, black, white, yellow and brown, since we are talking hip-hop) need to wake up and start rejecting negative images and negative role-models!

We have to start demanding more, and demanding better! We cannot hold hip-hop accountable for personal choices! Gucci Mane didn't force you to have unmarried sex, Lil Kim didn't make you get an STD, Young Buck didnt make you rob that liquor store... we gotta stop letting lazy people have MORE excuses! Negative images can be found EVERYWHERE! Not just hip-hop! Yes, music is an influence, BUT, when it all comes down to it, what you decide to do in life is a personal choice. Believe me, if you knock over a liquor store and CLAIM hip-hop made you do it, I am PRETTY SURE Lil Wayne IS NOT going to be given jail-time!

But just based on what you are saying, its not the genre that's the problem, because if it was then there would be NOTHING good about it. There would be NO positivity involved with it. The problem is that people are allowing the negativity to feed their lives, instead of choosing to go with the positive side of it!

Just think about it this way, we all know there is positive hip-hop (if you didn't know, then believe me, its out there, just because "the masses" don't buy into it doesnt mean it doesnt exist), just like there are positive movies, positive places to worship, etc. But if I told you to go to a Devil Worshipers church/meeting, you, as a Christian, would feel that it would not be the best place for you. You would avoid the meeting, avoid worshiping with anyone associated!

But what if EVERYONE, or a large majority of folks, decided to start going. And it became "cool" to be a Devil Worshiper! Well, would that mean RELIGION, as a whole, would be to blame for everyone's issues. Would that mean that you, even though you are Christian, should stop going to church or worship services? Well you said that we should just STOP making excuses for Hip-Hop! Well, lets do it across the board, let's stop making excuses for Religion then! I am sure Religion has KILLED 5-10 TIMES more people in the last 25 years than Hip-Hop is "responsible" for! I'm serious, think about it! Do we have to blame Allah, Yahweh, Jehovah AND Buddha for the fact that this world has had 2 world wars AND is constantly under the threat of a 3rd and/or nuclear war!?! Should we start denouncing Religion AS A WHOLE, or just denounce the actions of the few, or the agendas of the factions that have decided to take things a little too far!?!

That's what I am saying about Hip-Hop!!! You shouldn't talk about killing an ENTIRE musical genre, because of the ill affects that a few people and some money-hungry record labels have perpetuated! Like I said before, I will not deny its influence, but there IS positive, right along with the negative! Again, its up to people to make decisions for their own life, not the musicians they listen too!

Like I said, I fully agree with what you are saying TO A POINT! I just want you to understand that its not Hip-Hop as a genre, but like you finally said, its about holding certain hip-hop ARTISTS accountable! Like I said before, we have to hold the artists accountable, we have to demand more from them, we have to boycott, ban, lobby, hold them before a senate committee, etc! We have to hold the RECORD COMPANIES accountable too! They hide behind the lame excuse that they are letting their artists express themselves. Well, why do they choose to spend MILLIONS of dollars on advertising and promotion for negative hip-hop, when those same labels have positive artists, that they don't even support! Its all about the dollar for them, of course!

We, as parents, educators, community leaders, etc have to stand up for our kids. And do whatever we can to protect them from the ills of negative influence, be it hip-hop, video games, movies, or whatever! And best believe, they are DEFINITELY NOT "just being kids", they are trying to be adults TOO FAST and with the wrong things on their minds!

The N-Word! How does it impact YOUR life?

AS ALWAYS, I was scouring the FB posts and came across this pic (above!). I was like, whoa, why did someone post that! So I noticed it was my girl Telisha (of GoddessIntellect.com fame) and knew it would be on some, thought provoking, emotional, other worldly type ish! LOL! So I decided to look into it further! But she didn't give us the social commentary, she just made the PICTURE the commentary! So I was impressed as always.

Then I started reading the comments that came before me! One of them got me GOING (as always)! LOL! It wasn't a bad comment, it was just that the commenter said that they were surprised that, by now, after all these years, society still has yet to take the power away from this word! So, here is my reply, let me know what you think:

Actually, its not up to society to take the power away, its up TO YOU! Don't let WORDS, or even some people, make or break you! You have to remember that the love you have for yourself (and better, the love your God has for you) is MORE IMPORTANT than the love a PERSON can EVER bring you! You have to TAKE the power back from that word, and make it as unimportant as seeing the word CUPCAKE scrawled like that on a wall! You'd still wonder, WTF is wrong w/ the person who wrote it, but you'd care less about the "message" (or lack there of!). I have TAKEN the power away from it. I don't use it or its "endearing" alternative (nigga) in conversation either. I really feel like it's a word someone made up (yes, to hurt my people) but it's made up nonetheless, therefore... it's POWERLESS! I don't make time for ignorance, and this is definitely the epitome of ignorance; so there is never a reason for me to be upset by it! Well, outside of upset that society HASN'T convinced the perpetrator that its time to GROW THE HELL UP, get a job, get a clue and get a life! SMH!

Are kid movies going TOO far?

As always, I was going through Facebook updates and came across a good topic. So of course, I had to make it a blog post! Today’s topic is about Movies and how they seem to be getting out of hand when it comes to the Kid & Family Genre! My FB Friend said:

“wondering why all these new children’s movies are so scary? i.e. Coraline, A Christmas Carol, Princess and the Frog, Alice in Wonderland...etc...they are scaring my kids half to death! what's the deal?”

So, What Does STYLEZ Think?

See thats the problem, these movies ARE NOT for kids... they are for ADULTS! ESPECIALLY Christmas Carol, Coraline & Alice in Wonderland! (I haven’t seen the Princess & Frog movie, but I didn’t think it looked scary... but I wont judge! LOL!) But one thing we have to remember is we can't let the titles, or "intended" themes, or the big name stars, or the movie studio name, make us blindly allow our children to take in these negative images and adult themes! Just because a movie says Disney & has a MPAA rating doesn't make it OK for our children! And just like some kids were scared of some things in Princess, it didn't affect other kids. That doesn't make those kids "less tough", it just means that the movie was not intended for THEM! I am starting to be more cautious of the themes and movies coming out, because the studios are trying to make money, not look out for the best interest of our youth!

One other thing to remember is not to let the "Kid Pressure" get to you! Just because a movie has kids in it, or is animated, most kids are jumping to see it! Shoot, that's why I've taught my babies that if they see it on a commercial, then we CAN'T get it! LOL! I’m serious! I've said it so much that now before they ask for something, they will say, "daddy, we didn't see this on TV but"! LOL! But like I said, you definitely have to pre-screen these movies. And sometimes you can just look out for the tell-tale signs. Like most of the movies mentioned earlier were all Tim Burton movies! Those are definitely not little kid friendly. I also noticed that all the Dreamworks animated movies are full of adult themes! So lately my kids’ TV is stuck on nothing but Nick Jr and Sprout because the rest of it is too over the top!

That’s what STYLEZ thinks! What do you think?

The NO SNITCHING Movement... Its Time To MOVE IT OUT!

As usual, I am on Facebook scouring my friends' pages for things to "like" and comment on. Well I come across a comment where one of my friends wants to know if she should turn in a friend that did something illegal, or if she should take the fall! Well, of course there was a mix bag of responses:

  • tell her to turn him in
  • u know da streets...NO TELLN!!!
  • beat him senseless {LMFAO! of course that is my fave!}
  • turn him in she aint married to him i bet he wouldnt do it for her
  • He should MAN UP & pay the ticket and make sure it doesn't come back on her

So as I am reading all of this, I noticed comment #2 and it hits me! I'm like, are you trying to tell me you STILL believe in that wack ass NO SNITCHING movement! So of course, I was HEATED! I am so outraged that my own people would condone any of that "no snitch" mentality to still prevail in our communities. Its ignorant and its dangerous. I believe that if a person is involved in the crime and, to save their own skin, they decide to snitch on everyone else involved, that it should be punishable by CANING! LOL! Because thats some hard core snitching and should NOT BE TOLERATED! HOWEVER, if you are an innocent bystander and you are protecting your family and community by getting these people off the streets... then post haste, TURN THEM IN!

I have lost A LOT of love ones, friends, associates, etc to violent crime and the criminals weren't caught because some people thought it was "cool" not to snitch. So I am VERY passionate about snuffing out this mentality! It is a shame that our... parents, grand-parents and great grand-parents DIED to give us freedoms in this life but some of us choose to throw it all away... to KEEP IT REAL or to BE HOOD or whatever! I just feel like anytime and EVERY TIME is the right time to put it out there... WE GOT TO WAKE UP people! WAKE UP!

Anyway, below is what I told my friend about how to handle the situation and my feelings on "snitching"!

F-that, that aint snitchin, turn that MF in, he aint gonna have your back! and whoever think its snitchin, lets see YOU take one for the team! smh! that no snitchin shit is WEAK & STUPID! If you PART of the dirt, then yes, you need to get yo ass beat if you snitch, but if you innocent bystander, then its not snitchin, its protecting yourself!

No dissrespect BUT if you DONT snitch you STUPID... FLATOUT! I dont care WHAT BLOCK you THINK you from but NO ONE on "the block" is gonna do you a favor, pay your bills, make you rich, etc... REAL TALK! Its REAL LIFE out here people, its NOT A GAME! If you believe in that no snitch movement, MOVE OUT! That's a CHILDS game! And the police, the government, GOD, they dont have time and wont make time for games! If your life is LIMITED to a BLOCK then best believe this world is passing you by! REAL TALK! That's the problem with the youth today, they put so much emphasis on KEEP IT REAL, they dont realize that all this glossy shit is FAKE! I am a father, a businessman and a leader, NOT A FOLLOWER, and the only way to get out of that "ghetto" mentality is to STOP following people and ideas that 1) is not making you a better person 2) not helping your family OR community and 3) is not paying your bills, feeding you or making you financially stable! When they ready to do ALL OF THAT the let's talk!

Thats what STYLEZ thinks! What do you think? All comments and viewpoints are respectfully appreciated!
